Upgrading from previous versions

Key to abbreviations:
  • KIS – Kaspersky Internet Security
  • KAV - Kaspersky Anti-Virus


Upgrading to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009:

If the product license is still active:

  • Upgrading from KIS 6.0, KIS 7.0 – the current activation code (key file) can be used to upgrade the product;
  • Upgrading from KAV 6.0, KAV 7.0 – the user needs to pay for license renewal (subject to a discount)

If the product license has expired:

If the license for KAV 7.0, KIS 7.0, KAV 6.0 or KIS 6.0 has already expired, the user must renew the license online (subject to a discount) or at a retail outlet to upgrade to KIS 2009.


Upgrading to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009:

If the product license is still active:

  • KAV 6.0, KAV 7.0 – the current activation code (key file) can be used to upgrade the product;
  • KIS 6.0, KIS 7.0 – the user needs to pay for license renewal (subject to a discount).

If the product license has expired:

If the license for KAV 7.0, KIS 7.0, KAV 6.0 or KIS 6.0 has expired, the user must renew the license online (subject to a discount) or at a retail outlet to upgrade to KAV 2009.

How to Upgrade:

Kaspersky Lab personal products do not upgrade automatically after the release of a new version.


Upgrading to a newer version of the same product

Notes: The older version does not need to be uninstalled. Settings from the previous version will be lost.

Instructions:

  1. download the appropriate distribution kit (KIS 2009 or KAV 2009) and run the executable file
  2. follow the Installation Wizard instructions
  3. activate the product using your activation code or key file
  4. restart your computer.

Upgrading to a different product

Note: the older version must first be uninstalled.

Instructions:

  1. download the appropriate distribution kit (KIS 2009 or KAV 2009)
  2. turn off KIS/KAV: right-click on the product icon in the lower right of the screen and select Exit in the pop-up menu
  3. uninstall KIS/KAV: click on the Start button – All Programs – Kaspersky Anti-Virus / Kaspersky Internet Security – Modify, Repair or Remove – click on Remove
  4. follow the Remove Wizard instructions
  5. restart your computer when the Remove Wizard is complete
  6. after the system reboots, run the executable file from the KIS/KAV 2009 distribution kit
  7. follow the Installation Wizard instructions
  8. activate the product using your activation code or key file
  9. restart your computer
